Bring Us Your Clock for Service and/or Repair
We understand that every clock has sentimental value – that it’s a member of the family. Therefore, we don’t discriminate when it comes to your keepsake. We’re just as accepting of a battery-run, wood slice wall clock from the gift shop at Grandfather Mountain as we are an animated cuckoo from the Black Forest of Germany or the 100-year-old treasured family inheritance from New England. Don’t hold back – bring us your clock!
Knowledge of Clocks
The numbers say it all: 100 years of team experience; 13,000 clocks repaired; and 17 years of storefront service. We work on most types of clocks and are always willing to look at that interesting one-of-a-kind, but we also know our limitations. If we don’t have a technician who specializes in your particular clock, we won’t work on it. We don’t work on watches. It’s always best to be straightforward about what you do and don’t do.
Free In-Shop Estimates
We offer free estimates for all repairs brought to our shop. Just leave your clock with us and we’ll give you a receipt and follow up with an estimate. It’s a simple, convenient process. Whether you decide to fix it or not, the choice is yours – free of charge. Your clock is safe at our licensed and insured full-time storefront.
Once you’ve received and approved your estimate, we’ll get to work on your clock. Our normal turnaround time for mechanical repair is 2 to 8 weeks. If our repair inventory is high, the turnaround time may be longer. We don’t rush our repair work, and we’ll test your clock for a minimum of 2 weeks before it’s returned to you. Battery-run clocks take 1 to 2 weeks depending on parts needs.
3 Levels of Repair
We provide 3 service levels for mechanical clock repair and use state-of-the-art repair equipment. Level 1 is routine maintenance – we recommend it every 5 years. Clocks do not need to be serviced every year. Level 3 is a complete refurbishment whereby we disassemble, ultrasonically clean, repair worn pivot holes and polish pivots as needed, reassemble, lubricate, and test. It’s a very detailed, time-consuming process. Level 2 is something in between. Repairs are billed out at a flat rate based on our $60 hourly rate. Parts are extra. We stock standard items such as clock keys and suspension springs. Ask for a tour of our repair area!
Our Repair Philosophy
An antique or vintage clock must always be repaired “as is.” Most clocks made from roughly 1960 to the present, however, are different in that parts and entire movements are often available. For these modern-era clocks, our policy is to replace rather than repair because it’s the most cost-effective, reliable solution for the long run. We replace all defective battery-run units. If you’re looking for savings or low maintenance, many mechanical and electric clocks can be converted to battery operation. We are experts in cuckoo clock repair.
Warranties and Peace of Mind
All of our in-shop work carries a warranty. Depending on the level of service, that warranty can be anywhere from 1 month to 2 years. In any case, you’ll have plenty of time to get your clock home and see that it’s working properly. We always do the right thing and treat our customers fairly when it comes to warranties.
